About this work
A gently arched stone bridge crosses the canal at left, leading toward a domed, colonnaded church, while rows of ochre and rose-toned palazzi with shuttered windows and a hotel sign line the water's edge at right. Dark wooden mooring poles rise from the foreground water, and small figures cross the bridge and gather near a blue awning by the canal.
Warm ochre, terracotta and cream tones dominate the architecture, set against a clear pale-blue sky and greenish canal water rendered in broad, confident strokes. Strong sunlight creates crisp highlights and dark accents on the poles and under the bridge, giving the scene a bright, lively atmosphere.
