About this work
A large domed mansion with tall chimneys and a lantern cupola fills the center of the composition, seen across a garden terrace. A weathered classical statue stands on a plinth at left, and ornamental urns line a stone balustrade before a staircase descending toward the viewer. Patches of yellow light catch the cornices and dome, suggesting low sun through overcast sky.
The palette is muted and cool, built from lavender-grey, pale ochre, and soft green, with yellow accents picking out sunlit edges of stone. Paint is applied in broad, textured strokes that blur architectural detail into soft masses rather than crisp outline. The hazy light and soft brushwork give the chateau a quiet, contemplative stillness.
