About this work
A narrow stream curves through a dense thicket, flanked on both sides by bushes and branches coated in white hoarfrost or dried seed heads. The water in the foreground and middle ground is a warm amber-brown, broken by pale reflections, submerged stones, and patches of deeper blue-black shadow, while a dark stand of trees closes the view in the distance.
Thick, textured strokes and dabs of white and cream build up the frosted foliage, contrasting with the smoother, glazed passages of golden water. Cool dark accents at the center and along the tree line anchor the otherwise pale, high-key palette, giving the quiet scene a still, wintry, contemplative feel.
