About this work
Two boats are moored in the foreground of a harbor shrouded in mist, one at the lower left and one at the lower right of the composition. Between them, faint silhouettes of low buildings or a pier show through the haze, and a round, glowing golden light - a low sun or its reflection - hangs above the water at the upper left, its warmth echoed in soft streaks on the surface.
The whole surface is built from thick, textured strokes of pale blue, gray, lavender, and gold, applied so heavily that the paint itself seems to catch light. Forms dissolve into soft-edged patches rather than firm outlines, and the glowing light bleeds gently into the surrounding fog, giving the harbor a quiet, dreamlike stillness.
