About this work
Four nude women lie clustered together on tangled orange, yellow, magenta and teal drapery, limbs and long hair interlacing. One reclines with eyes closed, another nestles her face against a companion's side, a third sits half-upright with a hand on her chest, and a fourth lies with one leg raised.
Warm flesh tones glow against cool teal-green shadow and vivid patches of orange, yellow and pink cloth, lit by soft raking light. Brushwork stays tight on the skin, looser in the fabric, with dark drips running down the lower edge. The languid poses and closed eyes lend a hushed, dreamlike mood to the crowded composition.
