About this work

A pale dirt track curves from the foreground through wildflowers and tall grass toward a small group of figures walking together, then continues on to a fortified monastery on the horizon, its tent-shaped and onion-domed towers rising above a screen of trees. A dark wooden barn sits among bushes at left, with dense green foliage framing both sides of the path.

Soft greens and ochres in loose, broken touches build the summer foliage, while the road is laid in warm creamy tones that draw the eye toward the distant silhouette. Gentle, diffused light gives the view a quiet, unhurried mood.
