About this work
Large lobed oak leaves and smaller curling leaves lie strewn across a stone ledge in the foreground. Behind them a small fountain jets between two lattice trellis panels, a tall urn stands at right, and a rearing horse statue emerges from shadow at left beneath a leaf-shaped canopy.
Black ink and dense directional hatching set the crisply lit lattice and urn against the deeply shadowed horse. Foreground leaves receive close, almost botanical attention, their veins picked out in fine line with a light sepia stain, giving the small etching a quiet, decorative stillness.
