About this work
A dirt path curves through a dense grove, passing a slender white birch trunk on the left before reaching a short plank footbridge set among the trees. Thick clusters of leaves and slim dark branches crowd both sides of the path, closing the view into a narrow green tunnel.
Bright yellow-green and deep teal greens are laid on in broad, loaded strokes that read as individual leaves and clumps of foliage, while the birch bark is picked out in quick strokes of white and grey. The high-key, sun-struck greens against the shadowed bridge give the small scene a fresh, vibrant, plein-air immediacy.
