About this work
A nude woman sits within a whirl of orange and white fabric, one hand raised to her hair, beside the lowered head of a bull wreathed in pink and red flowers. Around them the ocean surges: two dolphins leap from the foam at left, a swordfish arcs through a breaking wave, and a sea turtle swims through the froth at the woman's side. Splashes of white spray and streaks of foam fill the gaps between the figures, binding the scene into one continuous churn of water.
Saturated blues and oranges dominate the palette, painted with a glossy, airbrushed smoothness that gives skin, fur, scale and fin the same polished finish. Light is bright and even, picking out crisp highlights on the spray and the wet hide of the bull. The abundance of animals, flowers and crashing water produces a buoyant, decorative energy despite the mythic subject.
