About this work
A large, irregular brown-umber mass occupies the upper half of the canvas, its edges broken into angular fragments over a pale cream ground below. A flat red-orange plane fills the lower left corner, marked with short ladder-like strokes, while a network of fine black scratched lines crosses the center like intersecting paths or beams.
The paint is applied in dry, dragged strokes with a scumbled, chalky texture, and pencil-thin incised lines are scored directly into the surface. The restrained brown, cream and red palette and sharp geometric divisions give the composition a taut, intense, structural feel.
