About this work
A cluster of tangerines with their stems and dark green leaves still attached fills a small tarnished silver ice bucket, its curved handles catching the light. One extra tangerine has rolled loose and sits on the ledge in front, its own leaf trailing beside it, against a near-black background.
Light falls from the upper left, picking out the waxy sheen of the leaves and the metallic glints on the bucket while the backdrop dissolves into shadow. The palette is built from deep browns and blacks set against saturated orange and green, painted with tight, controlled realism and a soft glaze that gives the fruit a warm, glowing presence.
