About this work
A tall rectangular stone tower rises from a grassy hilltop, its weathered walls patched with ochre and rust-brown tones. A narrow doorway near the base holds a wooden ladder leaning against the stonework, while jagged outcrops of rock break through the turf below, and a pale blue sky with soft clouds fills the background.
Light falls across the tower from the right, throwing its left face into deep shadow and picking out cracks and patched masonry in warm ochre and grey. The grass is built up with loose, textured strokes of green and yellow, while the sky is brushed in with softer, blended blue-grey tones, giving the whole scene a quiet, weathered stillness.
