About this work
Thick, overlapping masses of pink, magenta, and cream color suggest a cluster of blossoms rising through green and olive foliage, filling most of the canvas without a distinguishable vase or setting. The forms are built from broad daubs and ridges of paint rather than drawn outlines, so individual flower heads are only loosely legible.
Applied with a palette knife, the paint sits in thick ridges and scraped patches that catch the light, creating a heavily textured, tactile surface. The palette moves from cool sage and grey-green to hot pink and magenta, with a few touches of orange and white, giving the composition an energetic, saturated intensity.
