About this work
A bust of a woman, rendered like weathered stone in grey pencil shading, is tinted in bands of red, orange and yellow across the chest and shoulders. Set against a plain cream ground, dozens of black ants march across the sky above and swarm over the bust's neck and collarbone.
The limited palette of warm reds, oranges and yellows sits against monochrome grey graphite and flat black insect silhouettes, giving strong tonal contrast. Crisp lithographic linework renders the hatched stone surface finely while the ants are drawn as sharp black shapes, lending the print a dramatic, unsettling sense of quiet infestation.
