About this work
A cross-section of a dried sunflower head, its fibrous brown husk torn open to expose a pale, hollowed core, rests at the center of the composition. Beside it sit a small white garlic bulb and a dark, wrinkled gourd or fruit with a thin woody stem, arranged along a plain tabletop against a flat grey wall.
The palette is restrained and earthy — warm ochres, rust and charcoal brown set against cool grey-green tones — built up with visible, textured brushstrokes that render the husk's ragged edges and pitted surface. Even, diffuse light and a shallow, uncluttered setting give the study a quiet, matter-of-fact stillness.
