About this work
A plaster cast of a horse's head with a flowing mane looms over a broken chessboard pattern and folds of drapery, while a headless classical torso rests on a wooden stool below. A spiral-fluted column fragment, small plaster shoe forms, and chalk grade marks reading "E2" and "E4" are scattered across a warm parquet floor.
The palette is almost entirely grey, white, and black, broken only by the ochre floorboards, with every object fractured into overlapping translucent planes and grid lines. Flat, dry brushwork and visible canvas weave give the scene a cool, austere, contemplative stillness, as if a drawing studio has been dismantled into geometry.
