About this work
A tall cobalt-blue glass vase and a smaller matching vessel hold an abundant spray of lilac branches in white, pale pink and violet clusters with dense green foliage, filling most of the upper composition. At the base, on a wooden tabletop scattered with fallen twigs, sits a small white porcelain statuette of a nude girl, her figure echoing the softness of the flowers above.
Cool blues and greens dominate, offset by the warm pink and cream of the lilac clusters and the ochre of the table. The foliage and blossoms are built with thick, textured strokes suggesting impasto, while soft diffused light gives the whole arrangement a fresh, quiet stillness.
