About this work

Foliage and hedges are rendered in an intense, unnatural crimson red that dominates the composition, set against the soft blues, greens and creams of the costumes and distant trees. Light is even and diffused, brushwork smooth and blended, and the saturated, decorative color scheme gives the scene a dreamlike, fairy-tale atmosphere rather than a naturalistic one.
