About this work
A nude figure appears from shoulder to thigh, the body sharply foreshortened and twisted so the chest and abdomen face upward while the head tips back into shadow at upper left. One arm stretches overhead out of frame; the other arm and leg reach down into a dark, streaked ground. Thin red lines trace across the torso and thigh like scratches.
Rendered in ochre, cream and umber against near-black darkness, the body is modeled with strong, academic chiaroscuro that isolates the torso as the sole focus. Brushwork stays smooth on the skin but loosens into raw, dragged strokes in the surrounding shadow, producing a tense, dramatic image of the body under extreme physical strain.
