About this work
A nude woman reclines diagonally across the canvas, eyes closed as if asleep, her head resting against dark auburn curls spread over a bolster. She lies on a crumpled white sheet, one arm trailing off the fabric, legs stretched toward the lower right corner, while a heavy red curtain rises behind her against an almost black background.
Warm ivory skin tones are set against the saturated crimson of the drapery and the deep black void, an even, gentle light modeling the body in smooth, soft-edged gradations. The paint is applied thinly and evenly, giving the figure a calm, quietly sensuous stillness.
