About this work
Curling gold bands, feather-like fronds and beaded borders spiral across the canvas, converging around a stylized creature's head with a curved beak or snout picked out near the center. Geometric and floral motifs — chevrons, dots, small triangular teeth — cover almost every ribbon-like form, with a single blue jeweled disc breaking the gold-on-red rhythm.
The entire surface is built from metallic gold pigment and fine incised linework over a rich, mottled crimson ground, giving the ornament a raised, embossed quality. The composition has no single focal point but reads as an all-over decorative weave, dense and hypnotic, evoking folk emblem or amulet design.
