About this work
The work is divided into three vertical panels, each centered on an opening set into a heavily worked, near-black wall. The outer two panels contain a square window-like frame glowing pale teal against darkness; the central panel shows a taller doorway with steps descending into blue-black shadow beyond it.
The surface is built from thick, scraped and dragged layers of maroon, brown and black paint, with the cool teal frames the only source of light. The repetition across panels and the sense of openings leading down into darkness create a brooding, enigmatic atmosphere, closer to an architectural fragment than a legible place.
