About this work

A wide grassy plateau atop a cliff dominates the scene, crossed by a faint dirt track and dotted with a solitary bare tree and a cluster of leaning pines at the cliff's edge. A small figure in reddish clothing stands midway across the field, dwarfed by the open space. To the right the land breaks into rocky, plum-brown cliffs that drop toward the pale turquoise water of the lake, with a hazy far shore visible beyond.

Soft pastel strokes build the scene in muted greens, ochres and mauves, with the sky rendered in loose grey-violet clouds parting to pale light. Directional strokes describe the grass while denser marks build the pine foliage and the deeper plum tones of the exposed rock face. The overall effect is airy and contemplative, capturing a quiet, wind-swept expanse above the water.
