About this work
A nude woman, eyes closed and hair falling loosely, leans back into the chest of a man standing close behind her, his tousled hair rendered in dense scribbled strokes. Their bodies overlap in a tight embrace at the centre of the sheet, his hand appearing between them, while scattered ink droplets spray across the lower right corner.
Indian ink is applied with a loaded brush, letting washes bleed and feather along contour lines while quick pen strokes pick out facial detail and hair. The heavy black massing around the lower bodies contrasts with the pale, untouched paper of the woman's torso, giving the embrace a hushed, tender intimacy despite the roughness of the mark-making.
