About this work
A flat expanse of warm grey ground fills most of the canvas, crossed by scratched lines, a ruled grid and tally marks in the upper register. A solid brown, wood-grained block sits upper right like a weathered door, beside a pale grey rectangle. On the left a red-streaked panel stands behind a grey column shape, with a faint red mark near the lower edge.
The surface is built from flat, scraped layers of grey and white with thin incised pencil-like lines, keeping the palette almost monochrome apart from the ochre-brown block and small red accents. The handling is spare and weathered, evoking crumbling stone or an old wall rather than any specific view, and the mood stays quiet and subdued.
