About this work
Several bare, near-black tree trunks cross the foreground at different angles, framing a tall multi-story building whose walls are patched with red-orange and ochre and whose windows are visible through gaps in the branches. Below, an undefined pale path carries faint blue-green shadow lines; no figures are present.
The trunks are built up with layered strokes of brown, green and blue pastel over a loose black underdrawing, while the building is blocked in with warm patches of red, orange and ochre. The sketchy, economical handling leaves much of the paper bare, giving the scene a crisp, wintry immediacy.
