About this work

A metal coat stand holds a bright green overcoat and a black leather jacket side by side, with a dark blue garment glimpsed behind them and another hanging at the far right. A pair of round eyeglasses rests on a small wall-mounted hook. The room is otherwise bare, its grey walls and floor forming a plain backdrop.

A sharp wedge of pale light cuts across the grey wall from the upper right, dividing the space into flat zones of light and shadow. The green coat's saturated color stands out starkly against the muted greys and blacks, painted in smooth, close-toned brushwork. The empty garments and stark lighting give the still life an odd, watchful presence.
