About this work
A wide river curves gently through a low, wooded landscape at dusk, its banks lined with dense green shrubs and trees. A single slender tree stands prominently where the river bends, silhouetted against the sky and doubled in the water below. Distant tree lines mark the horizon on either side, and the calm surface stretches unbroken across the lower half of the composition.
Soft pinks, lavenders and blue-greys fill the sky and are echoed in the water, giving the whole scene a gentle evening glow. Clouds are built with loose, blended strokes, while the trees and riverbank are handled with more textured, descriptive brushwork.
