About this work
A row of tall, narrow, multi-storey buildings in muted red, grey, and ochre tones lines a harbor quay under a pale blue sky, their many small windows and steep slate roofs closely packed together. Red and white café umbrellas shade waterside tables at street level, while white sailboats and a blue-hulled fishing boat float in the foreground water along the stone quayside.
Soft pastel strokes in chalky blues, pinks, and warm ochres build the facades and their rippled reflections with a loose, textured touch rather than fine detail, giving the harbor a gentle, sunlit haze. The muted palette and calm water create a relaxed, picturesque impression of a small coastal town.
