About this work
Oversized white lily blossoms, along with touches of pink, purple and orange flowers, spread loosely across almost the entire canvas in a soft, hazy blue-grey atmosphere. Low in the composition, a small, more graphically drawn vignette of rooftops and a slender spire appears, as if a distant town were glimpsed through or beneath the flowers.
The palette stays pale and misty throughout, built from broken strokes of white, powder blue and lilac that dissolve the flowers' edges into the surrounding air. Only the small architectural sketch at the base is drawn with firmer, darker lines, anchoring the otherwise dreamlike, floating bouquet to a real place and grounding its soft, diffuse light.
