About this work
Narrow vertical bands in bone-white, tan and ochre stand grouped together like a cluster of broken columns or ancient masonry, interspersed with small blocks of sky-blue and cobalt. The fragmented forms rise from a lower band of red-brown dots against a flat, uninterrupted red background that fills the rest of the canvas.
Thick, encrusted acrylic builds each vertical strip into a rough relief, its surface scored with drips, pitting and fine cracks like weathered stone. The saturated red ground pushes the pale, textured columns forward, creating a dense, monumental composition with a warm, brooding intensity.
