About this work

Through the panes, ridge after ridge of blue mountains recedes into the distance beneath a pale, cloud-filled sky, with drifts of mist settled in the valleys between them.
Cool blues and greys dominate the mountain view, contrasted with the warm dark brown of the window frame, table and chairs in the foreground. Paint is applied smoothly with soft gradations in the sky and mist, giving the distant ranges an almost photographic haze, while the interior elements are more solidly modeled. The empty seats and quiet tabletop set against the vast view create a still, contemplative mood.
