About this work

A muscular, bare-chested figure is folded into a tight ball, head lowered toward drawn-up knees, arms wrapped around the shins, balanced at the very edge of a narrow board or ledge. No other setting is shown beyond the worn surface beneath him and the mottled wall rising behind, isolating the compressed pose against empty space.

Deep olive and moss greens mottled with patches of ochre and rust cover the ground, scraped and scumbled to suggest a worn, weathered surface. Warm flesh tones stand out sharply against this cool backdrop, the tense, curled posture and tight framing lending the image a focused, physical intensity.
