About this work
A nude woman is seated on a sunlit boulder, body curled inward with one knee drawn up and the other leg extended along the rock's edge. Her blonde hair falls forward, hiding her face, as she leans on one arm propped against the stone, the other hand resting near her bare foot, framed by rising cliffs of ochre and rust-toned rock.
Warm late-day light rakes across the scene, gilding skin and stone alike in matching tones of amber and burnt sienna so the figure seems to merge with the rock. The stone is built up with dense, pitted brushwork, set against the smoother modeling of the body. The effect is sensuous and still, quietly intimate.
