About this work
A single seated figure, seen from behind, is sketched with dark hair gathered at the top of the head and a bare back and torso rendered in a few broad strokes. One arm appears bent at the side, and a shadowy rounded form to the right may suggest drapery or another element in the space. No setting or background detail is developed beyond the paper itself.
The drawing is built almost entirely in warm grays and soft charcoal blacks against untouched beige paper, with only faint reddish streaks for warmth. Marks are loose, dragged, and unblended, leaving much of the sheet bare and the figure's form only partly resolved. The sparse, exploratory handling reads as a quick study rather than a finished work.
