About this work
A woman lies reclining with her head tilted back and one arm raised above her head, her torso and chest turned toward the viewer. The figure fills most of the canvas, set against a loosely suggested drapery or cushion, with the lower body and legs dissolving into shadow at the bottom edge.
The entire scene is bathed in warm golden and amber light, with the flesh built up in thick, buttery strokes of cream, pink and ochre.
