A gas stove with white enamel casing and black knobs occupies the left side of a kitchen counter, its worktop holding a covered yellow enamel pot, a white plate, a striped oil bottle, tins and a metal grater hung on the diamond-patterned tiled wall. Two bare wooden shelves run above, and a checked cloth drapes over the stove's edge; no figure is present.

Muted ochres, grey-blue tiling and warm wood tones are washed in soft, even daylight from an unseen window, with smooth, understated brushwork that keeps every object legibly rendered. The quiet, unpeopled arrangement gives the still life a subdued, contemplative stillness true to its title.
