About this work
A child's face leans thoughtfully against a raised hand at the center of the composition, partly screened by tall ferns in the foreground, while a long-eared young animal stands close beside, its head turned toward the viewer. Behind them a pale, sunlit clearing opens onto a screen of trees, the two figures nearly dissolving into the surrounding foliage.
The entire scene is rendered in saturated greens and yellow-greens, from acid highlights in the canopy to deep emerald shadow among the ferns, with only the child's skin breaking the monochrome scheme. Loose, wet washes and drips give the surface a fluid softness, evoking a hushed, glowing woodland stillness.
