About this work

A quiet riverbank in overcast light: two silhouetted willows rise from the near shore on the left, their reflections breaking across a still, pale channel of water. Reeds and low grass edge the water's edge, and a flat green far bank stretches along the horizon under a wide, hazy sky.

The palette stays muted — greys, sage greens and soft ochre in the foreground grass — with the sky rendered in soft, blended strokes that dissolve into the water below. Brushwork is loose and atmospheric rather than detailed, built up in translucent layers that suggest damp, diffused daylight. The overall effect is hushed and contemplative, a still moment by calm water.
