About this work
A cluster of illuminated skyscrapers rises against a deep blue night sky scattered with white flecks of stars. The twisting, ribbon-like form of a spiral tower stands at the center of the group, flanked by taller angular high-rises with rows of lit windows in yellow, green, and pink. Below, a river fills the foreground, its dark surface broken by rippling reflections of the glowing towers.
Set on black paper, the pastel builds intense color from layered strokes of blue, gold, and magenta, with white highlights scratched in for stars and window glints. The dense, textured marks and near-abstract handling of the skyline give the image a bold, dramatic charge.
