About this work
Tall grasses and reeds rise along both banks of a still waterway, framed by dark, feathery clusters of trees at either side. Between them a narrow channel of pale water leads the eye toward a flat, distant horizon, under a sky broken by a soft band of peach-orange light.
The palette is muted and cool overall - lavender-grays and soft greens - warmed only by that glow at the center, which is echoed faintly in the water below. Reeds and grasses are built with quick, dry, upward strokes, while the sky and water are softly blended, creating a hushed, still atmosphere of early morning light.
