About this work
A yellow enamel pot with a spoon standing inside rests on a small portable electric hotplate set on a wide windowsill, its cord trailing off the edge. Beside it lies an old skeleton key, and a sheer curtain hangs half-drawn against the tall window, its wooden shutters folded back.
Low morning sun rakes across the wall and shutter in long diagonal bands, the light rendered in soft ochre and pale grey-green tones that dissolve into warm shadow. Smooth, controlled brushwork and a restrained, near-monochrome palette give the corner a hushed, unhurried stillness, as if the room itself is just waking up.
