About this work
A nude female model kneels on a red floral cloth, her body turned three-quarters to the viewer with one hand braced behind her back. Her other arm is raised, holding a pale rectangular object, possibly a mirror or folded fabric, close to her temple. Behind her, a strip of white birch-bark trunks stands at left while dense fabric or wallpaper printed with large red roses fills the rest of the background.
Warm flesh tones are built from creamy whites, ochre and soft pink, modeled with visible, confident brushstrokes that keep the anatomy solid without smoothing it over. The saturated red and green of the floral background push forward against the paler figure, creating strong color contrast typical of a studio study. The lighting is even and frontal, giving the pose a calm, classical, academic character.
