About this work
Flowers and trailing leaves overflow from a cluster of ornamented ceramic jugs and small pitchers of different sizes set along a wooden ledge, ranging from a tall central vessel wrapped in cord to a tiny stoppered jar. Loose petals and leaf shapes drift across the dark ground around the arrangement.
Layered etched and tinted lines pick out each blossom, leaf vein, and jug's incised pattern in pale tones against a deep blue-green field flecked with warm ochre highlights. The dense, all-over patterning and glowing color against near-black ground give the still life a rich, dreamlike decorative quality.
