About this work
A cluster of ceramic vessels, a lidded jar, a tall handled jug and a small blue pitcher, stands behind a halved and sliced melon, three cherries and a spiral seashell arranged along a narrow shelf. Below the shelf, smooth grey stones are shaped and marked to resemble a fish lying among rocks, its eye and gills clearly rendered.
A deep indigo, star-scattered sky fills the upper half and dissolves into a pale, luminous horizon, giving the scene an otherworldly glow. Cool blues and violets are set against the warm orange melon flesh and red cherries, painted with smooth, blended brushwork. The mood is dreamlike and quietly mysterious, blurring still life into fantasy.
