About this work

Three ripe mandarins, still attached to short stems with fresh green leaves, sit side by side on an old painted wooden ledge whose surface is chipped and peeling in places; a plain warm grey wall fills the background.

Rendered with tight academic realism, the fruits' waxy orange skins catch soft directional light that models each dimple and highlight, while the layered, cracked paint of the ledge is built up with fine visible texture, giving the small still life a quiet, precise intimacy.
