About this work
A cluster of broad lotus leaves and a few pale blossoms crowds the lower right corner of the composition, growing at the edge of a wide, still river. Small dark boats float in the middle distance, their outlines barely legible against the pale water, which merges almost seamlessly with a hazy sky.
Soft washes of pearl-grey and blush pink dominate the water and sky, broken only by touches of turquoise and coral at upper right and the thick, textured greens of the lotus leaves. The loose, atmospheric brushwork and near-monochrome haze give the scene a tranquil, dreamlike stillness.
