About this work
A pale man seen from behind stands with arms spread wide, drumsticks in each hand, beneath a row of grotesque bearded heads beating drums above him. To the left a nude woman crowned with flowers sits wrapped in cloth strips; below, two horned cattle heads flank a snarling, fanged cat-like creature. At right a grinning skeleton plays an accordion beside women in ornate red and floral dress, one cradling a rooster, all set against a thicket of red blossoms.
Deep crimson, maroon, and earthy browns dominate, pierced by pale flesh tones and jewel-bright accents. Thick, layered brushwork builds a dense, encrusted surface with almost no empty space, and the crowded imagery creates a claustrophobic, theatrical, nightmarish intensity.
