About this work

An aerial view over the River Thames shows the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben's clock tower glowing gold against a darkening cityscape, with a long bridge crossing the water in the foreground. Above the illuminated buildings, plumes of fireworks smoke bloom across the sky in overlapping clouds of color.

Fiery orange, crimson and violet pigment is dragged and blended wet-into-wet to form the explosive sky, contrasting with the warm lamplit facades below rendered in thick golden strokes. The river holds soft, broken reflections of the lights, and the layered smoky palette gives the whole scene a hazy, celebratory glow.
