About this work
A dozen or so flamingos stand and wade in shallow water, their long curved necks bent at varied angles as they preen and look about. The birds crowd the middle distance against a hazy horizon, with a patch of green reeds at the lower left and rippling reflections doubling their pink forms in the water below.
Soft coral, salmon, and rose pinks stand out against a misty backdrop of pale aqua, lavender, and grey, applied in loose, fluid strokes that blur the line between the birds and their watery surroundings. Warm ochre patches in the foreground water suggest reflected light, and the overall effect is airy and light-filled rather than sharply detailed.
